Your bespoke ceremony gives you the opportunity to enjoy a truly personalised ceremony, all about the two of you and your journey as a couple. It will be a completely unique expression of your relationship – a celebration of everything that’s brought the two of you together and to your special day. With your bespoke ceremony, you have complete creative freedom to be authentically you – you’re the designers and your celebrant registrar will work with you to bring your ideas and vision to life. Your dedicated celebrant registrar
Three months before your ceremony, your celebrant registrar will contact you to arrange a private consultation. This is your opportunity to get to know the person who will be creating and delivering your ceremony, while discussing your ideas, preferences, and plans for the big day. Consultations can take place in person or via Microsoft Teams, giving you flexibility to choose what works best for you.

During your consultation, your celebrant registrar will guide you through the many possibilities available when creating your perfect ceremony. Whether you're dreaming of something formal, relaxed, or completely unique, we'll help create a ceremony that feels truly yours.
A legal bespoke ceremony
If you would like your bespoke ceremony to be legally binding, it must take place at an approved premise (licensed venue for marriages and civil partnerships) within Nottinghamshire, including any approved premise linked outdoor areas.
Legal ceremonies cannot include:
religious wording, worship, or rituals
the consumption of food or drink during the ceremony
The two-ceremony option
Many couples choose a Bespoke Ceremony because they want complete freedom over where and how they celebrate.

include the consumption of food or drink during the ceremony
you may wish to choose two ceremonies:
your bespoke ceremony: held anywhere you choose, with complete creative freedom
your legal ceremony or formation: conducted separately by the same celebrant registrar, either on the same or a different day at an approved premise or registration office (additional fees apply)
This option allows you to enjoy the ceremony you've always imagined while ensuring the legal formalities are completed.

Popular ceremony rituals
Many couples choose to include a symbolic ritual as part of their ceremony. These special moments can add meaning, personality, and lasting memories to your day. Here are some suggestions for you to consider, all of which can be included in a legal bespoke ceremony.
Unity candle: Lighting a shared candle from two individual candles to symbolise two lives joining as one.
Sand ceremony: Combining sand from separate containers into one vessel to represent your union. Family members and children can also be included.
Salt ceremony: Blending salt together as a symbol of commitment, creating something you can continue to share at home.
Guard of honour: Friends, family, colleagues, or teammates create a celebratory pathway for your entrance or exit.
Ring warming: Wedding rings are passed among guests, who hold them briefly while sharing a silent or spoken wish or blessing for your future.
Oathing stone: A traditional-inspired ritual where vows are made while holding a special stone, symbolising strength, and permanence.
Rose exchange: Exchanging flowers or meaningful tokens as symbols of love, commitment, and appreciation.
Time capsule: Sealing letters, keepsakes, and memories to be opened on a future anniversary.
Joining of hands: Using ribbons or cords to represent two lives coming together in a beautiful keepsake moment. This is a secular and symbolic addition to the ceremony and is not connected to handfasting or any religious or belief‑based ritual. The hands are not bound, wrapped, or tied together.

After your consultation
Following your consultation, your celebrant registrar will create a personalised ceremony script based on everything you've discussed.
You'll receive a draft to review and can make any changes before giving final approval. Your celebrant registrar and our bespoke ceremonies team will remain on hand throughout the planning process to answer questions, offer guidance and make any amendments needed.
Working with your venue
If you have booked a bespoke ceremony, we recommend informing your venue as early as possible.
Because your ceremony may include additional personalised elements, timings can vary considerably. Keeping your venue informed will help them plan your day smoothly and accommodate any rehearsal requests where available.
Once your ceremony has been finalised, your celebrant registrar will be able to provide an estimated running time for you to share with your venue.
Ceremony rehearsals
If you would like extra peace of mind before the big day, your celebrant registrar can arrange a rehearsal.
This can take place:
at your venue (where available)
at an alternative location
online via Microsoft Teams
A rehearsal can help everyone involved feel confident, relaxed, and prepared.
On the day
When your special day arrives, your celebrant registrar will be there to ensure everything runs smoothly.
They'll arrive in advance to liaise with your venue, support those taking part in the ceremony and help calm any last-minute nerves. Most importantly, they'll deliver a heartfelt, professional, and beautifully personalised ceremony that celebrates your unique love story and creates memories you'll treasure forever.
